The New Kendall Jenner Pepsi Ad is Downright Ridiculous

Kendall Jenner’s new Pepsi commercial has attracted a media storm due to the controversy of its subject choice. To sum up the ridiculousness: a protest starring a diverse cast of millennials catches Kendall’s eye while she is posing for a photo shoot. Jenner joins the Benetton-ready crew and subsequently resolves any problems by handing a can of the soda to a police officer. All tension is put to an end and any sign of violence disappears. Thanks Pepsi!
Except not. To capitalise on today’s wave of protests and the genuine pursuit for social justice is not only insincere, but serves as yet another example of just how out of touch corporate America really is. Pepsi has since responded to critics with a statement defending its actions. “This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey.”
While harmony is indeed an important message, it is completely inappropriate that Pepsi should decontextualise the struggle that protest groups are enduring in the current day by implying that their brand of soda acts as some sort of twisted peace offering. Everyone knows that’s what Coke is for.
As usual, the internet has responded hilariously:
