The say home is where the heart is, and that couldn’t be more true for New York photographer Erika Astrid. For this exclusive fashion story for SLEEK, the image-maker lensed her locality, Kent Ave. in the Hasidic Jewish neighbourhood of South Williamsburg, Brooklyn. “I drive down this road almost everyday to go to my yoga studio, or to go to Williamsburg, and I am always so inspired by all the colours and shapes,” Astrid tells SLEEK. “I have been wanting to shoot along here for awhile, and I knew this shoot would be perfect for this location.” Ordinarily, Astrid shoots indoors in the studio, due to the unpredictability of NYC weather, but for this fresh and playful shoot, starring new face Hana Altomonte, she wanted to create a story that “showcases Brooklyn a little differently than where most people shoot.” The result is a charmingly youthful and natural shoot that tells Astrid’s simple yet effective story: “just a girl in her natural habitat doing whatever she wants.” Now, that’s something we can all get behind.
