Moody and ethereal, Lana Del Rey’s recent single, “Watercolor Eyes,” premiered on Sunday night’s episode of Euphoria. The single follows the success of albums Chemtrails Over The Country Club and Blue Banisters (originally titled Rock Candy Sweet) both released last year. The beauty of Lana’s melodramatic love songs is the perfect match for the rich, coming of age storylines Euphoria follows – it was only a matter of time before the two came together.
Set against the backdrop of Euphoria’s exploration of young love and heartbreak, the dreamy song features lyrics such as “I think that you taste like rock candy / Sweet like beaches, leave me all sandy / Why do you leave me with watercolor eyes?” Created in collaboration with Canadian songwriter Nasi Atweh, “Watercolor Eyes” is hinted to be a reference to the complexities of the bittersweet relationship between Rue and Jules; a relationship filled with fragility, honesty, love and of course, watercolour eyes.
