The 2000s is an era that continues to define style, fashion and trends. From the Balenciaga Crocs to the revival of Juicy Couture, the 2000s definitely isn’t going anywhere. And the trend goes beyond clothing. Beats by Dre have brought us a 2000s gaming campaign, Choose Your Player, to launch three new colourways of their fastest-selling product to date, the Beats Studio Buds. This model is packed with new features, such as “Locate My Beats,” accessing battery life info and the ability to control listening modes directly from your device. Through the lens of a 2000s video game, Beats bring fashion and music together to inspire the possibilities of self-expression and individuality. We were inspired by their latest campaign, which took us right back to being in an arcade in the 2000s, and so we have explored how each of our favourite video game characters would style the Beats Studio Buds.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (1996)
Since the game’s launch in 1996, Lara has become a pop culture icon. In 1998, she scored a huge sponsorship deal with Lucozade, in 2002 she then released a single called “Getting Naked” (as if her hypersexualised body wasn’t already enough for the male gaze), and of course, Lara was played by Angelina Jolie in the 2001 film adaption Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, making Lara Croft even more prolific. And, let’s not forget the countless “sexy” Lara Croft Halloween costumes that we see every October.
When she’s not venturing into the depths of ancient tombs, Lara Croft would be sporting the Moon Gray Beats Studio Buds. As one of the most intelligent and athletic video game characters, it’s only fitting that Lara Croft would be the most fashionable too – Lara knows exactly what she wants, and she definitely wouldn’t compromise on her style. So naturally, Lara would pair the Beats Studio Buds with the Miu Miu SS22 mini belted skirt and top set; practical (in Lara’s world at least), and stylish.

Solid Snake: Metal Gear Solid (1990)
Known as the “Man Who Makes the Impossible Possible,” Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid is trained in espionage missions, tasked with destroying nuclear weapons. As the hero of the 90s videogame, Snake has to not only act the part but he of course has to look the part too.
On the days when he’s not battling to save the world, Snake wears the Moon Gray Beats Studio Bud’s along with Kiko Kostadinov’s all grey (Snake’s signature) look from his Menswear Fall 2022 collection. To complete his look, the Balenciaga 99mm shield sunglasses will be sure to keep Snake’s title of “Legendary Hero.”

Zero Suit Samus: Metroid (1986)
Designed by Japanese video game designer Makoto Kano in 1986, Samus is an intergalactic bounty hunter and the protagonist of the game Metroid. Perhaps her most iconic outfit, when she isn’t in Metroid form, is the blue Zero Suit; the perfect match for the Ocean Blue Beats Studio Buds. When working undercover, Samus whips out her Balenciaga Blue Dress worn by Eliza Douglas from the FW22 collection, an alternative to her usual suit. But what’s a bounty hunter without some killer shoes? We’re sure that Balenciaga’s Madame 80 Mm Crocs in black would be a wardrobe essential for Samus.

Chun-Li: Street Fighter (1993)
Referring to herself as “the strongest woman in the world,” Chun-Li was the first female fighter in the Street Fighter series. Expert in martial arts and relentless revenge seeker, Chun-Li’s go-to Beats would be the Ocean Blue Studio Buds. After all, if you want to seek revenge, you’ve got to look the part. Her vengeance outfit is the 18th look from Simone Rocha’s FW22; a blue layered velour dress with ruffled sleeves and bow detailing. Will she seek revenge with a roundhouse kick or with the allure of her beauty?

Princess Peach: Mario (1985)
Mushroom Kingdom’s very own Princess Peach is a childhood favourite, who has lived on throughout generations and even has her cute infant counterpart, Baby Peach. She has featured in almost every Mario video game, as well as her own games Princess Toadstool’s Castle Run and Super Princess Peach, making her another pop culture icon.
Known for her love affair with colour, it goes without saying that Princess Peach would flaunt the Sunset Pink Beats Studio Buds. But, no Princess’ dream is complete without a gown. From Valentino’s FW22 collection, a stunning floor-length cape style dress with an opening for Peach to flaunt her elegant gloves is a must-have for Peach and her wardrobe.
