Maison Mihara Yasuhiro is AW17's One to Watch

Maison Mihara Yasuhiro’s AW17 show definitely made the shortlist for The Most Interesting Location Award at this season’s London Fashion Week, Men’s, by inviting show-goers to the leafy Barbican conservatory filled with tropical plants.
The clothing that followed was much darker than the lush setting. Mihara Yasuhiro’s aim was to explore ‘simplicity’ in dressing, and this came across with the head-to-toe monotonal looks in black, ochre, burgundy and forest green that dominated the collection. The super wide trousers and generously cut jackets left plenty of room for the layered styling of the men’s and womenswear alike.
What Mihara did best was his updated versions of classic jackets; a biker, shearling, peacoat and denim jacket were given a contemporary edge with extended sleeves or oversized buckles and belts. The headwear was also key to the strength of Yasuhiro’s fashion army, berets, and wide-brimmed hats punctuated each outfit.
SLEEK got backstage before the show and captured some of the highest cheekbones in London on the Polaroid SX70 using Impossible film.
