Marc Jacobs Taps Cara Delevingne, Courtney Love, and Marilyn Manson For His AW16 Ads

This week, Marc Jacobs has been rolling out his new adverts via his Instagram. The David Sims shot campaign honours an eclectic cast of  outsider heroes, who Jacobs’s has revealed one-by-one, with long essay-style captions on why he has chosen each protagonist. Here’s who made the list, and why the designer included them in his own words:

Courtney Love

Grunge Goddess, Courtney Love already has a fashion campaign under her belt with Hedi Silmane’s YSL music project back in 2014 which also starred Marilyn Manson (see below).  Of this pairing, Jacobs says “Courtney and I (and a then two, or three-year-old Frances Bean) first met at dinner with Anna Sui in 1994 at Bar Six in NYC. I remember being quite taken by her deep, thorough knowledge of and voracious appetite for fashion and music.There has always been a genuine allure about Courtney that I continue to admire […] She was then and remains now, for me, the ultimate divine mess in a dress”.

Marylin Manson

Jacobs says of Manson: “These days more so than ever I am reminded of Manson’s interview in the documentary film, Bowling for Columbine and his response to a question asking what he would say to the kids and Columbine community in the wake of the tragedy that took place in 1999. His response which, ‘I wouldn’t say a single word to them. I would listen to what they have to say, and that’s what no one did’ “.

Jacobs on Kembra: “While I had been aware of Kembra Pfahler’s unique voice and vision during the East Village scene in the 1980’s, it was when her band, The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black (that name alone!) released their album, The Anti Naturalist in 1995 I found myself completely enamored with Kembra”.
