Martine Rose's New Zine Is an Ode to Old London

Martine Rose has released a zine in line with her AW17 collection entitled “Don Pedro”, that highlights the diverse cultures that are still intact in the area of Seven Sisters in London. The cool kid of menswear showed the collection at Seven Sisters South American Market last season. Rose’s rejection of the customary blank central London space was a successful risk and drew Fashion media out from zone 1 to the area that inspired her work.

Talking to i-D magazine Martine explained “I’ve been in Tottenham for ten years, so it was time to do something here…There is an osmosis that happens from just being here. It is a condensed London microcosm, so in my mind, it’s London on the whole that still inspires me.” Shot on location, in a market where every person from any walk of life has a place, the zine eradicates any assumption that fashion is out of touch and out of reach. The zine has the feel of a personal diary and showcases her mix of retro oversized sportswear and tailoring in a location that reminds us of pre-gentrification London. As an ever-shrinking portion of the city, Rose has managed to capture a window in time before more inevitable luxury developments take over. Don Pedro is available at concept store Machine-A, but and can be viewed on SHOWstudio and purchased through Ditto.
