Mattew Williams, without a doubt one of America’s greatest creative minds, is making moves at Givenchy. After dressing Kendall Jenner in one of the Met gala’s most iconic looks to date, he is pleased to announce his upcoming collaboration with the Multimedia artist Ewan Macfarlane for his Fall/Winter 2021 collection.

Williams and Macfarlane, are an artistically perfect symphony- a creative bond where each other’s needs are met at the right points. Mirroring his unique style, the multimedia artist made the Givenchy Fall/Winter 2021 models crouch, climb, reach, lean and clad in clothes and accessories from the upcoming collection. These creations in combination with the extraordinary poses evoke a quest for self-expression, meaning and evolution. It’s poetry in human form, beautiful and grotesque at the same time.

Matthew Williams, the creative director at the French fashion house has long admired Ewan’s work, especially the sculptural side of it, since finding humanity in luxury speaks to him as a designer. “I’m always looking for at the reality of the person who will bring the clothing to life: it should feel powerful and effortless, equal and joyful. What someone wears should always portray who they are inside. I feel like the beauty of Ewan’s work helped me to convey that in a powerful and poetic way”, states Williams.

Equally, Macfarlane feels honoured to work with the designer and to be commissioned by one of the world’s most iconic fashion houses, Givenchy. Speaking about the collaboration, Macfarlane says: “Whether hanging, reaching or contouring, these compositions represent an ongoing conversation about contemplation and self-discovery (…), what is perennial and what is seasonal. It’s a meditation on form, craft, opulence and celebrating life”

Drawing from several artistic references, the collaborators love to merge together what hasn’t been done beforehand- pedestals, chairs, ladders, or metal tension poles to a high shine, set in scene with prestigious Givenchy clothing. Dissociated limbs present the looks and accessories, expanding the viewer’s horizon, and starting the dialogue about the new collection, the space it creates and the position of the viewer.
