The Lessons we Learnt from London's Menswear Shows

 Charles Jeffery is London’s Loverboy

Charles Jeffrey as part of the MAN presentation blew the audience away on the very first day of shows. The club kid response to the current political turbulence was to build a surreal world to escape away to. Set designer Gary Card and choreographer Theo Adams helped create the wild fantasy performance piece that took place at the Topman Space. Clay-covered dancers moved to the eerie Björk soundtrack while massive papier-mache costumes in unrecognisable shapes bobbed down the catwalk. These were interspersed with Jeffrey’s designs which referenced different periods of historical dress. Crumbling tribal face paint added to the chaos among the tailoring, dandy and punk elements of his collection.

Streetstyle Stars are Getting Younger

Move over editors and buyers, this young group of stylish boys were snapped by every passer-by outside the BFC venue and truly stole the street style show with their head-to-toe Gucci outfits.

It’s Good to Leave Zone One

Martine Rose dragged the Fashion Week crowd out to Tottenham in  – gasp! – zone two to present her perfectly awkward mix of oversized ’80s tailoring and sportswear in an extra special location. The venue was an incredibly retro, yet still functioning indoor market, where the fashion press sat along the corridors between barber shops, nail salons and money transfer stores, while the neighbouring vendors provided Columbian snacks. The journey out of central London was worth it to see Rose’s attention to detail in her silken shirts and gold logo tie clips (even in the occurrence of a Tube Strike!).

You can do the Housework in Style

Phoebe English put her models to work during her AW17 presentation. The excellently cast boys repeated their domestic chores of sweeping, ironing and folding sheets while onlookers inspected her clean, minimal designs in navy, black and moss green. The concept of the presentation nodded to the practicality of English’s clothing along with the sturdy workwear fabrics, such as denim and waxed cotton used.
