Metabolic Rift: Berlin Atonal’s (un)guided project

The highly anticipated Berlin Atonal is just around the corner and this year presents a (un)guided exhibition Metabolic Rift, a sequenced series of site-specific interventions from leading international visual artists and musicians hosted at Kraftwerk.

Set in an unconventional “gallery” setting, which takes you through the Tresor Club to the unseen areas of the deep Kraftwerk infrastructure, collaborates with a long line up of artists such as Congolese sculptor Rigobert Nimi, Liliane Lijn, Cyprien Gaillard, Jamal Moss (Hieroglyphic Being), Sung Tieu, Amnesia Scanner’s Ville Haimala, Giula Cenci, Pan Daijing, Tino Sehgal, Nina Canell and more.

The artworks and performances appear and disappear in choreographed succession, playing with light, darkness, sound and the ever-changing flow within the space. The shifts resemble a circulation of kinetic energy in which energy is exchanged, boosted and eventually transformed, an experience designed to blur the lines between our organic and synthetic interactions.
