The fashion capitals of the world have always emphasised a “work hard, play hard” lifestyle. In the ’70s there was Studio 54, the NYC party that everyone from Andy Warhol and Grace Jones to Divine and Michael Jackson frequented. Then, with the ’90s came London’s Sign of the Times, an acid house boutique-turned-club-night often visited by Alexander McQueen and Kate Moss.
Whether in London, Paris, Milan or New York, clubbing has always served as a way for the stylish set to experiment with personal fashion choices. Though the legendary nights of yesterday may be a thing of the past, today’s crop of parties are keeping the vibe alive.
Here are the high-spirited, high-fashion club nights you need to know now:
London
Loverboy
LOVERBOY
Vogue Fabrics Dalston
66 Stoke Newington Rd
Utilising the same moniker as he does for his cult fashion label, London fashion designer Charles Jeffrey started LOVERBOY as a fun way to unwind after class. Both his party and his clothing line have received widespread success, with presentations at London Fashion Week and party attendees such as Hari Nef. DJs range from Jeffrey himself to PC music’s Finn Diesel, who provide music to a crowd of outrageously dressed partygoers. If you’re searching for inspiration on what to wear, don’t fret – just throw on Party Monster and channel your inner club kid.
Paris
Club Sandwich at Yoyo
Club Sandwich
YoYo at Palais de Tokyo
13 Avenue du Président Wilson
While tourists flock to the Palais de Tokyo during daylight hours to view world-renowned artworks, the city’s best-dressed head to the museum by night to attend one of the French capital’s most fashionable parties. Known as Club Sandwich, this ultra-cool club night describes itself as “dedicated to entertain you in the most dramatic and glamorous way”. Succeeding in its mission, the event has become the go-to party every fashion week since its inception. Now, Parisian party animals can get their Club Sandwich fix on a regular basis, as the party has turned into a monthly event.
Milan
Rollover Milano
Rollover Milano
Puerto Alegre
Via Giosuè Borsi, 9/2
Showing up at Rollover is almost like attending Milan Fashion Week itself, with the industry’s best dressed always making a pit stop for at least part of their Friday evening. With one room dedicated to early 2000s hip-hop and another to the biggest names in house music, this relaxed night out lacks the pretension of most fashion events and best of all, it’s free. Fashion darling Sita Abellan (pictured above) is a regular, which pretty much confirms Rollover’s status as the trendiest party in the city.
New York
Holy Mountain
Holy Mountain
Slake
251 W 30th St
Finding the best party in NYC can be a tricky thing to do. If it hasn’t already turned into last year’s party or been shut down by the cops, chances are it’s about to. Enter Holy Mountain, the club night created by writer, performer and socialite Ladyfag. The lineup is always epic and the night is never boring, with last month’s musical performances including Princess Nokia and Le1f. The only downside? The late night event is held on Sundays, making your case of the Mondays that much worse.
