Next month, supermodel Naomi Campbell will finally have the opportunity to add author on a resume that already includes entrepreneur as well as contributing editor to GQ. Her book, an autobiography entitled “Naomi Campbell” and published by Taschen, is presented in an extravagantly sculptural design of Campbell’s bust created by British pop artist Allen Jones. Split in two volumes, the first is dedicated to showcasing her extensive work over the years while the second is composed of a personal account on the superstar’s life until now. Personal photographs and exclusive images accompany Campbell’s musings to provide in-depth coverage.

‘At an early age, I understood what it meant to be black. You had to be twice as good’

“The book is a culmination of my life’s work,” states Campbell. “The book is a timeline of my career, and has allowed me to remember and give credit to all the wonderful people I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years.” And Campbell does just that, with a VIP list of mentions that includes Azzedine Alaïa, Princess Diana and Gianni Versace, published in The Guardian last weekend. In the revealing excerpt the supermodel also opens up about her private struggles by disclosing that: “At an early age, I understood what it meant to be black. You had to be twice as good” and “I was lucky to have Linda and Christy stand up for me. They told certain designers that if they wanted to have them in their show, they had to book me, too. That kind of support was unheard of.”
Limited to a run of 1000 signed copies, “Naomi Campbell” is available for presale now on Taschen.com along with an even more exclusive “Art Edition” as well.
