Highlights from New York Fashion Week: Men's

New York Fashion Week Men's SS17 Feng Chen Wang

New York Fashion Week has built a reputation as the place to be for excellence in fashion design. Though some international designers do flock to the city for the chance to present (as seen below), the vast majority of creative minds hail from America – a true testament to “made in the USA”. As the menswear edition of NYFW SS17 comes to a close, we highlight the best and brightest from the weeklong event. Here are the four designers generating buzz, for all the good reasons.

New York Fashion Week Men's SS17 Feng Chen Wang

Feng Chen Wang

For her Wednesday afternoon presentation at NYFW, Feng Chen Wang displayed a collection determined on making a connection. The Chinese designer accomplished her mission both literally and figuratively, with ensembles that utilise multiple drawstring closures in order to join pieces together. The collection, which serves as an extension of her last presentation at London Fashion Week, features heavy usage of stark white and bright orange hues to provide a contrast against the darker muted tones. Though it is being presented officially as menswear, Wang considers her designs to be truly unisex – giving both sexes yet another thing to connect on.

New York Fashion Week Men's SS17 Robert Geller

Robert Geller

Inspired by the German capital, Robert Geller brought the industrial metropolis to NYC for this season’s menswear event. Though he now works stateside, the Hamburg-born designer melds his German past with his American present. Models walked the runway as the DJ played ’90s techno in a truly authentic tribute to the music genre’s European capital.

New York Fashion Week Men's SS17 Linder

Linder

After a chance meeting in 2012, Sam Linder and Kirk Millar opened Linder as a way to express their unique sensibility and eclectic inspirations. The NYC boutique houses both their own personal label as well as lesser known menswear brands from around the globe. For their first day of fashion week, the creative duo presented their SS17 collection. In an interview with W Magazine, Linder and Millar discuss the collection and their intent to juxtapose New York luxury with their middle America upbringings. “This collection more than any other embodies the idea of bringing together things that are opposite,” they say.

New York Fashion Week Men's SS17 Landlord

Landlord

Building upon menswear’s current obsession with workwear attire, Landlord designer Ryohei Kawanishi revealed a collection of high visibility jackets featuring neon fabric and reflective material. Models were placed against a bare room in order to ensure all focus remained on the clothes. In a cheeky ode to the label’s workwear muse, Kawanishi even gave the presentation a tagline of “Please Excuse our Appearance”. Similar to Feng Chen Wang, Landlord incorporates large doses of orange into its designs, leaving us eager to see if colour will pop up even more in the near future.
