For photographer duo Luke Abby and Carlos Darder, the everyday is all but placid mundanity. A couple since 2019, the pair first met in Darder’s native Mallorca; galvanised and accidentally lovestruck, their real-life romance soon doubled as an artistic partnership, fragments of which are now on view at Schoneberg’s Ballery in a one-night exhibition titled Contact — a curatorial iteration of their first photobook, Falling in Love, published earlier this year. Abby and Darder’s shots document the speedy ride (or blissful free-fall) by which strangers become lovers; the slow ascent towards emotional arousal, ecstatic physicality and erotic camaraderie. Intimacy, the image-makers seem to hint, is a messy and jubilant feat.
