Originally created as an idea for his graduation project from London College of Fashion, Spanish designer Alejandro Gómez Palomo’s menswear brand Palomo Spain is making quite the impact. Showing in both Madrid and Moscow during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, the flamboyant “gender-bending” label already has a promising future within the fashion industry despite being only two seasons deep.
Palomo Spain’s SS17 collection is a fanciful swirl of prints and florals entitled “Boy Walks in an Exotic Forest”. Influenced by Victorian aesthetics combined with a tropical vibe, the collection presents a dreamscape of ethereally draped garments and extravagant silhouettes, throwing away any gender conformity. Just like the woman in Rousseau’s masterpiece, the collection is both sensitive and childish – but with an underlying darker sense of being diluted in a psychedelic fantasy.
