“We all look different, we all speak different languages, but we’re all connected” – Pharrell
Following up on Pharrell Williams’ 2014 collaboration with Adidas, which saw a refresh of the brand’s famed Superstar shoe collection, the popular songwriter has teamed up with the sports label yet again to bring sneakerheads a new crop of kicks released yesterday.
For his second project, Pharrell presents Hu, a collection that aims to connect people through the exploration of humanity, culture and diversity. “Hu is short for human – human being, human race, humankind,” said Pharrell. “But Hu, itself is also a reference to colour. As human beings, we all have a colour. We all look different, we all speak different languages, but we’re all connected.”

The range of ready-to-wear and footwear has been designed in a variety of colours, reflecting this idea of unifying everyone regardless of race. Unfortunately, unless you were quick to snag your favourite look yesterday, you might be out of luck as some websites have already reported quick sell-outs.
For Pharrell, the idea of sharing the stories of diverse groups around the world has elevated this project. He has taken influence from these people, and hopes to give back to the communities by shining a spotlight on their traditions and ways of life, as can be seen in the line’s campaign video which chronicles his time with Native Americans in North Dakota.
