Getting a headstart on the new year is never an easy thing to do, but after the difficulties that the world has experienced over the last year, there is an overriding sentiment that 2021 can’t come quick enough. Whilst we don’t know, with any certainty what the future will hold, we’ll definitely need some fresh sources of escapism and now thanks to a new collaborative project between designer and stylist Sita Abellán and photographer Carlota Guerrero, we may well have the answer to those desires. The two have collaborated on a surrealist 2021 calendar art project titled Planet Indigo which follows a squad of aliens as they explore planet earth for the first time.

In a twelve-part series, with one episode from the narrative arc being explored each month, the aliens attempt to help humans, as the world appears to have exhausted its resources and humanity has turned on itself to place the blame. Each month’s image suggests a strained communication barrier between the aliens and the humans however this doesn’t stop them from working to aid humanity in the fight against social injustice and environmental decline.

Beyond the wholesome interplanetary relationship that Planet Indigo highlights, Sita and Carlotta have used the calendar as a tangible means of directing financial resources to charitable causes close to their hearts. The calendar’s proceeds are being donated to Federación Estatal de Lesbianas, Gays, Transexuales y Bisexuales (FELGTB), which is one of Spain’s preeminent charities fighting for LGBTQ equality and rights since 1992. 2021 will undoubtedly have its challenges but a Planet Indigo calendar might just be the start to the year that you need.

You can pick up a Planet Indigo 2021 calendar here. All proceeds, bar the cost of shipping & distribution will go to FELGTB.
