Purple Tears

It was only mere months ago that fans grieved the loss of David Bowie, and now it has been announced that another true visionary leaves us this year: Prince.
Over a matter of decades, Prince Rogers Nelson built his career as a legendary pop icon and musician famous for pushing the envelope both creatively and socially. Voicing his opinions, he used this assuredness to share love and wisdom.

‘Yeah, everybody’s got a bomb, we could all die any day. But before I’ll let that happen, I’ll dance my life away’

‘Everyone has their own experience. That’s why we are here, to go through our experience, to learn, to go down those paths and eventually you may have gone down so many paths and learned so much that you don’t have to come back again’

Love

“I am yours now and you are mine and together we will love through all space and time”. Prince was a sex symbol, and made this apaprent in his music he did not hide his passion for love with songs like “I wanna be your lover” and “Dirty Mind”  he made it clear that he was a lover. His romatic endeavours were widely publisised and included a string of  famous names, the artisit was linked to such names as Kim Basinger, Madonna and Vanity. After several love affairs he was quoted: “Always cry for love never cry for pain.”

Fashion

As a fashion icon remembered for his illustrious bold looks, nudity and androgyny, Prince was a trend-setter who followed the beat of his own drum. The artist was not only creative musically – visually, his presence was duly noted when entering any room. He was always unapologetically himself, living by the motto “I rock, therefore I am.”

RIP. #Prince. Just a few weeks ago on set I asked Sam if he knew “Kiss” by Prince. He played it and I sang. I am one of the many people who love you and your music Prince. This just makes me feel sick.Ein von laverne cox (@lavernecox) gepostetes Foto am

Spirit

The artist formerly known as Prince kept a genuine momentum with words that promoted  strength and individuality. “A strong spirit transcends rules,” he once said. Not only was he a musicical genius, but he was an inspirational figure to many.

“Compassion is an action word with no boundaries.”

Passing

The untimely death of the 57 year-old  musician came as a surprise to most. His vibrant life was explified through music and voice “Life is just a party and parties aren’t meant to last.” After a medical scare earlier this month, Prince was thought to have been on the mend, even appearing before a small gathering of fans at Paisley Park for an intimate performance. All to our dismay the inevitable occurred, with his words ringing aloud: “Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life.”

My musical brother… My friend… The one who showed me the possibilities within myself, changed everything, and kept his integrity until the end, is gone. I am heartbroken.

Paisley Park

As soon as news broke, fans camped outside Paisley Park Studios, the artist’s home and recording studio where he spent most of his time tucked away. Flowers and memorabilia were left behind in rememberance of the late musician. The famous American singer never took himself too seriously,  once exclaiming: “When I found out that there were eight presidents before George Washington, I wanted to smack somebody.” He made history in Paisely Park, the world and our hearts. He will never be forgotten.
