What Real Women Look like in an Underwear Campaign

Following on from their underwear campaign with Girls’ stars Lena Dunham and Jemima Kirke, Lonely Lingerie the New Zealand-based brand has released a new “body positive” photo series shot by June Canedo, called ‘Nine of a Kind’, featuring unretouched Instagram-stars including Slutever’s Karley Sciortino, Art Hoe Collective founder Gabrielle Richardson, ballerina Anna Collins (sister of Petra) and trans model Aurel Haize.
The casting of non-models with ‘flaws’ is not a new thing in advertising. The award-winning Dove ‘Real Woman’ campaign pioneered the movement back in 2004 and many brands have followed suit, this series differs from its predecessors however as the subjects are not depicted jumping in the air, or laughing in a brightly-lit colourful studio, removing any ‘sexiness’ from the shots, they are posing like the traditional lingerie campaigns, and this makes for even more refreshing and intimate images.
