Fresh from her massive live show in Berlin, Bad Gal Riri posed yesterday next to large headless cut-out of herself at KW. The music and fashion sensation was rocking a fabulous bright green ensemble featured in Vetements’ Spring 2016 runway and it was all over her Snapchat (@badgal).
The cut-out in question is an artwork by Colombian artist Juan Sebastián Peláez, whose piece was comissioned for the 9th Berlin Biennale. Entitled “Ewaipanoma (Rihanna)” the mammoth artwork was already one of the Biennale’s most Instagrammed pieces. It features Rihanna’s headless body in her trademark bikini style with her face photoshopped on her chest in reference to early European explorers’ depictions of Caribbean natives as Acéfalos. In an interview with 032c the artist explains that the piece is a critique of advertisement perpetuating minorities as the “Other”. Rihanna has certainly proved there’s no other like her with a 75-show world tour, and “Work” breaking the Beatles’ record of total number of weeks spent at number one in the US.
You can take a selfie with the cut-out Riri at the KW, Berlin, until 18 Septemeber 2016
