Over the past thirteen years, Autocenter has become a staple in the Berlin contemporary art scene, a space which exudes artistic freedom and experimentation, exhibiting countless established artists and emerging artists on the brink of their career.

But because Autocenter cannot survive on only love and admiration alone, the Berlin space will hold its second auction this Saturday 29th March 2014 at 4pm, with all proceeds going straight back into the space, contributing towards renting the space and the expenses of an exhibition.

Comprised of 42 works by 41 artists, the auction will offer works from both ends of the budget, with some pieces starting at €8000 and others starting at €25,000, Autocenter has something for everyone. But this is so much more than a regular auction, with many of the participating artists having a direct and personal affiliation to the artist-run space. “The auction at Autocenter is a statement, a voice.” explains participating artist Kristine Roepstorff, “Stating that this vivid driving force of the Berlin art scene hasn’t yet been heard by enough people in order to assure it’s future”.

Founded by artists Maik Schierloh and Joep van Liefland in 2001, Autocenter has always had a clear vision on who they are and what they exhibit, with the auction being no exception. “We represent both upcoming and established artists,” van Liefland tells Sleek, “For us it’s about the art not about the age. Autocenter belongs to the art”.

The Autocenter auction takes place on March 29th, 2014 at 4pm. A new catalogue celebrating the thirteen years of Autocenter will also be available at the auction.
