Sculpt

Sculpt is a collaborative artistic project by Designer Kristýna Hrabánková and Visual Artist and Photographer, Taja Spassková. The project’s starting point was at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague during Hrabánková’s undergraduate thesis in Fashion and Footwear Design. In this work, she focused on the connection of the sculptural and clothing forms and on the relations between the body, space and clothes. She then began her collaboration with Taja Spassková, an independent photographer and interdisciplinary artist for photographical reflection of her work.

The joint effort of the two emerging progressive artists resulted in a complex artwork, combining fashion, photography and art installation. While sharing the same conceptual framework based on the play with epistemological meanings and understandings of matter and materiality, each of them approaches fashion and photography from their own perspective and with intentions of their own. Among the sources of inspiration are the elementary distinction between the sculptural processes, where you could either create a sculpture by either removing or adding the material. The individual components of the project work with form and composition, where the conventional way is disrupted in order to deepen the visual and spatial effect and to support the set concept and themes. Concrete forms thus transform into the abstract. An important part of the collaboration is also a textile installation made by both authors, presented as the background for the images. The artwork was made with the sculptural methods of adding and removing material, which here fittingly consists of fabric that corresponds in colour with the clothing collection.
