DEAR FRIENDS OF SLEEK,
LEADERSHIP is not demonstrated in moments of attention, but in moments of decision. Where someone takes responsibility without knowing whether applause will follow. The topic of this issue represents precisely this moment: presence without posturing, clarity without pathos. At a time when visibility is often confused with significance, we are interested in something else: Who shapes things really? And how? SLEEK sees itself as a social-cultural magazine, we understand that leadership today no longer takes place in clearly defined spaces. It arises in politics and pop culture, in the military as well as in journalism, in language, images and decisions. Leadership has become transversal. If you want to understand it, you have to be prepared to understand contexts.
This issue thrives on precisely this breadth – visually as well. The great MICHEL COMTE photographed AMANDA DONATO for us. The images are not mere representations, but an attitude: reduced, focused, self-confident. They reflect the central theme of this issue – leadership as presence, not as performance. Through these stories, we encounter people who live leadership from very different perspectives – and precisely because of this, they unfold their social relevance.
SOPHIE PASSMANN leads through language. Through analysis, self-questioning and a willingness not to resolve ambivalence. Her view of the public sphere, femininity and projection shows that cultural interpretive authority is one of the most powerful forms of leadership today.
CHRISTIAN BOCK, Admiral of the German Armed Forces, talks about leadership under conditions of utmost responsibility. On innovation in safety-critical systems. About creativity not as luxury, but as a strategic necessity.
With PAUL RONZHEIMER, journalism comes into focus as a leading authority in public discourse. His reports from crisis areas show leadership as an attitude under pressure. Taking responsibility for what becomes visible – and for what remains unsaid.
These stories exemplify the breadth of this issue: from culture and politics, to media, to individual self-management and social responsibility. SLEEK is not interested in a definition of leadership, but in its many manifestations. What connects all the protagonists is not power, but impact. Not status, but attitude. They show that creativity is a central driver of innovation. Leadership, understood in this way, is not a promise of control. It is the willingness to build the future without completely knowing it.
In this sense, join us in building it.
