Want a tip when you’re visiting Amsterdam? Walk along the inner city canals of Keizersgracht, Herengracht and Prinsengracht, lined with tiny house boats, such as and look out for one of many fleamarkets set right by the water. Sleek’s favourite is Waterlooplein – Amsterdam’s oldest fleamarket that has, in the last decade, created strong ties to youth culture. The vibe resembles more an outdoor bazaar than a fleamarket with more than 300 stands of second hand clothes, bric-a-brac, military uniforms graffiti paint, tools, antiques, vinyl and a fresh smoothie stand. The best part? We stumbled across it in the afternoon, during the week as it’s open everyday but Sunday, so the usual fleamarket stress of having to wake up early in order to get a good deal just doesn’t apply.
