Sleek x mb! by Mercedes-Benz: Meeting Hanna Putz

“I’m interested in the withdrawn, in the seclusive, the moment of being with one self”. That’s how 26 year-old Viennese photographer Hanna Putz describes her practice of photographing models that are lying down. Examples of this within her series are photographs of a girl wearing all red lying on a red couch, her head is turned away from the camera lens, and there are mothers lying down with their babies who obscure their mother’s faces. A further series depicts people from afar as they lie in parks relaxing. “It’s about being inactive, not standing in communication with the rest of the world. What’s a moment worth if I’m just experiencing the moment for myself? The act of doing nothing interests me.”

What gives Putz’s conceptual work its distinct language is her approach to photography, how she chooses to use it: “First and foremost photography is a way for me to ask questions,” Putz says.
