Philip-Lorca diCorcia is an American photographer whose work blurs the line between fact and fiction through his refined cinematic approach to image-making. Documenting real people and locations in such a theatrical way, diCorcia explores a fascinating tension between the real and the unreal, the natural and the unnatural, the candid and the posed.
In 1996, diCorcia travelled to the Ukrainian city of Odessa where he took hundreds of intimate portraits of the life and people who lived in the beautiful historic port and its surroundings. Until now, with the exception of a single image, these photographs have never been published. Upon seeing coverage of the present war in Ukraine, diCorcia was reminded of his time in the city of Odessa and selected images to be shown in an exclusive online charity exhibition with Sprüth Magers.

Whoever has not been
In the beautiful city of Odessa

Presenting a time of freedom and peace, this powerfully touching exhibition was motivated by a desire to help the people of Ukraine. Prints of the 25 images shown in the exhibition are available as an unlimited edition at $250 each. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross, funding essential food, medicine, clothing and first aid training and shelter for those affected across the country.
