“This is a collection of commissioned images from various artists sourced from SLEEK’s archives.
I was thinking about posturing, gestures and the idea of the ‘caught’ moment when selecting these images. The majority of these photographs depict people performing in public spaces and outdoors—and right now that feels particularly significant as people under lockdown the world-over relish their brief time outdoors each day. Presented together, these photographs showcase incidents of solitude reflection and carefree joyousness.
What strikes me in particular about this set of images is how they recontextualise what the body means to photography. The human body as a vehicle for communication, one which oscillates between being recognisable and unrecognisable. Just like in the work of Martin Parr, for example, it enables us to see things that seem familiar in a completely new way.”
