“This is a collection of commissioned images from various artists sourced from SLEEK’s archives.
In this selection of images, I was thinking about the act of daydreaming, of drifting off and being immersed—or submerged—in thought. I was interested in how these photos convey a sense of reverie, some more directly as in Carlota Guerrero’s photograph of a woman poised and looking towards the sun, and others in a more abstract way: light winking through flowers, or the intangible nature of thought—its wavering contours—conveyed through the blurs and overexposure in many of these images.
Right now, as we spend more time in doors, thinking and grasping for words to describe this surreal situation, the act of dreaming and thinking about ‘an other side’ to all this feels particularly timely also. I chose to finish the sequence with this image by Kito Munoz of a man floating in water and held up by another—somehow that seems like a poetic reminder that we can either choose to sink or to swim at this difficult moment in time.”
