It’s a shame: the most anticipated red carpet event of the year turned out to be a truly lack-lustre affair. The annual Met Gala fundraiser is one of the most highly regarded events of the year; an event at the intersection of fashion, art and celebrity. This year’s theme was “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: The Art of the In-Between”. Rei Kawakubo, who founded Comme des Garçons in 1969, is the second living designer to be given a solo show at the Met in the history of the Museum (Yves Saint Laurent was the first in 1983). Ms. Kawakubo is known for challenging beauty, identity and gender norms throughout her collections but unfortunately not everyone took those same risks with their attire this time. The evening’s red carpet moments were notable sparse with most attendees looking as if they were on their way to a high school prom.
While the majority played it safe, there was a select few who stood out. We compiled a list of the most on-point looks of the night:
Rihanna was rocking Comme des Garçons, she sure never lets us down.
Michèle Lamy also wore Comme des Garçons last night. She stayed away from her usual all black attire to a bright fuchsia look.
