Lip, irreverence, front, cheek, brass – is there anything that better defines the London attitude to dressing up than any of those? Heels for girls, sneakers boys, colours and patterns in crazy clashes that fit them both. There’s the breeze of bass, grime and dubstep in the air and in the caps and hoodies, the gold and prints, the glamour of the pavement up-in-yer-face.
“Street couture” is what you could call the essence of the attitude as well as the look – in fact, that’s how designer Katie Eary refers to her outfits, which channel, distill and ennoble the above into something perfectly, radically chic. The vision of the rising young Royal College of Art’s MA grad consists of tattered jeans and camouflage, iridescent shirts, hooded jackets and lurid roses in all shades of pink, and here it’s modelled against a rare blue sky above the Thames. Eary’s website is www.katieeary.co.uk. That’s dot co dot UK, not dot com. It’s an important point.
