Hanger is the brainchild of designer Claire Yurika Davis, who blends her British and Japanese heritage along with a tendency towards fetish fabrics to make clothes that are both wearable and surprisingly eco-friendly.
Hanger Season 7 is inspired by Bosozoku girl gangs of Japan. The attitude of these bad-girl bikers is represented in the rebellious femininity of Davis’ designs. The strict colour palette of red, black, silver and semi-translucent rubber is used on both exaggerated and body-conscious silhouettes to successfully blend Japanese and fetish trademarks. The demonic Hannya masks printed or embroidered onto key pieces further identifies the Hanger girl as one not to be messed with.
Claire is actually allergic to latex, but the London designer hasn’t let it stop her making it the brand’s signature textile. While rubber designs are often limited in terms of fashionable shapes, Davis gives the fabric a sophisticated refresh with boxy cuts and belted waists. Her vision has won her the ASOS Fashion Discovery prize and plenty of fans on social media. To find out more about Hanger and to shop the collection visit their website.
