The setting is simple, spartanic really. There are people, objects, a mirror reflecting fragments of them back to us. Do these people know each other, do they even trust each other? Angles and perspectives are constantly shifting. Their differences bind them, their similarities too, and this bond could last forever, starting from the banal and ending in strong proximity, so close we can see drops of sweat on their faces.
Diamante Kayenga plays with reflection, close-ups, movement, shadow and light. An oversized bag is reinvented as a skirt with hands reaching into the photo, wanting, asking. Diamante’s narrative is both extravagant and intimate, careful and confrontational, all the while opening up a space for our own interpretation, intention and maybe, reflection.
