In the latest episode of “ANDERSSEIN” podcast supported by SEAT, host Minh-Khai Phan-Thi discusses the effects of theatre’s long-standing constructs on modern stage expression with theatre director Pinar Karabulut.
What does being different mean to you?
The interesting thing is that “difference” is always defined by a counterpart. I cannot define that term alone. Sometimes, I feel like I’m from another planet because I walk through the world thinking differently to others.
What does home mean to you?
I find the term “home” exciting. The word “home” in the German language has a unique ring to it. On the one hand, I find it romantic and associate it with beautiful emotions, on the other hand, it annoys me because the term is also so instrumentalised. The term homeland is slightly different, it triggers a longing for Turkey inside of me.
You haven’t got your German passport yet…
It’s absurd, isn’t it? I belong with the people here! At first, I simply did not have the money for naturalisation, now, I want to do it, but I just don’t have the time to do it in practice.
