Two years ago, a fateful move from London brought Edward Barnieh to Hong Kong and the avid shutterbug couldn’t resist picking up his camera. Now, he spends most days snapping shots of the city’s split-personalities, juxtaposing its iconic energy with lesser known pockets of peaceful tranquility. Driving Volkswagen’s ultra compact e-Golf hatchback with its electric, silent drive is the perfect way to to explore the busy neighborhoods. Edward invited us for a joyride around the “Pearl of the Orient” for a tour of his favourite hangouts and haunts.
Take a look at Edward’s symmetric visions below, and read our recommendations for must-see locales in the city.

Edward’s Picks:
1. Stonecutter Bridge – noteworthy for its impressive construction and structural feats (the overpass is one of the longest cable-stayed in the world), this landmark is a symbol of Hong Kong that connects passerby to the islands of Nam Wan Kok, Tsing Yi and Stonecutters Island
2. Central Market – selling the city’s freshest meat and produce, this market is mandatory for foodies and bonafide chefs alike
3. Yau Ma Tei – also known to locals as “Waterloo”, the busy neighbourhood has many a shop-filled street with quirky bargain buys and one-of-a-kind souvenirs for friends back home
SLEEK’s Picks:
1. Duddells – a perfect union of art and food, sip on a classic martini while admiring a selection of rarely seen works on loan from the city’s most established private collectors
2. Spring Workshop – winner of the 2016 Prudential Eye Award for Best Asian Contemporary Art Organisation, this gallery space bridges the gap between local HK art and the rest of the world
3. The China Club – as no trip to Hong Kong would be complete without an afternoon of dim sum, nibble on an order or two of steamed dumplings at this Shanghai-style favourite
