Written and directed by artist Britta Thie in cooperation with Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, “Translantics” is a semi-autobiographical film about the transitions between data, emotions, ways of understanding, and belonging everywhere and nowhere. “People born before 1989 aren’t digital natives nor digital immigrants,” she explains. “We’re kind of in the middle. So this show plays with those borders and the constant transitions.”

Shot in Germany and New York, Britta Thie used “reality soap” techniques in the six-part film to comment on the art world and the vicissitudes of life today. “Translantics” features a large cast including Thie and Sleek contributor Ella Plevin, playing themselves and versions of themselves.
