Capturing the energy of London’s Black Lives Matter protest

As protests take place across America, thousands of activists marched in London yesterday to pay tribute to the murder of George Floyd and to protest American police brutality. Photographer Kareem Abdul was there to capture the powerful moment on camera. Organised by Black Lives Matter, the march emphasised that the UK is not innocent in terms of racial inequality either. “Protesters were speaking straight from the heart. Their speeches were filled with emotion as the crowd yelled ‘Black Lives Matter’,” says Abdul. “The atmosphere was pretty safe, and the message was pretty clear: let’s attain equality and come as one.”
