Versatility Meets Style – Drop No. 2 of TOMMY x Timberland

Since the first drop of Tommy X Timberland a few weeks ago, the two brands show no signs of slowing down. The sought after collection returns for the second drop but this time with a clash of utility and versatility, grown to be known as classic characteristics of Timberland that is juxtaposed with the signature all American Tommy Hilfiger style. Reimagining the future with the help of their iconic 90s archives, the brands are rebirthing footwear and outerwear pieces, coloured in camouflage of sandwich beige, light blue and white.

In creating the collection, the brands put a special focus and emphasis on the environment, wanting to reduce the ecological footprint by rethinking the production process and making an effort in sourcing materials that last significantly longer. After rediscovering the outdoors within the past year, this collection is made to get us through every weather, from the warm Californian sun to icy Berlin. The standout styles include a cropped puffer, ripstop parka and Ithaca striped shirt dress. Versatility is important when it comes to fashion, especially when one is a dancer, like our unique talent Majid Kessab. Exclusively for SLEEK he and his counterpart model Maxie Elizabeth sat down with us, discussing all things TOMMY x Timberland.

Tommy Hilfiger is an iconic brand, with which many of us grew up with. Looking back at your life, are there any moments connotated to the brand (e.g. wearing Tommy at your first day of school)?

Majid: I grew up as the child of Kurdish refugees, together with three brothers and sisters. Financially, it was not possible to wear brands like Tommy Hilfiger, but I was very into rap, so I knew that many 90s rap artists wore the brand. This was the first time I recognized the brand.

Maxie: My dad had this Tommy Hilfiger T-Shirt he always brought to the beach with him. I am sure he wore it to other places too, but whenever I came out of the water as a kid, he’d put me in this shirt to warm me up. So for me, when I think of Tommy Hilfiger, I think of the comfort of the sea.

This Tommy x Timberland capsule draws clear references to urban street style. How do you see yourself reflected in this?

Majid: My dance style is based on traditional Kurdish folklore and straight-up Hip Hop dance moves from the streets. It’s a mix of two things, just like the collaboration of Tommy Hilfiger and Timberland. Being open-minded and being true to oneself is key in the arts and this is definitely reflected in this collaboration.

Maxie: I think street style is incredibly liberating, it’s a celebration of who you are or the version of yourself that you’d like to portray through your style. I feel most comfortable in oversized clothing, so this capsule collection of Tommy x Timberland was right up my alley. It allows you to move freely with no restrictions and you still feel confident and sexy at the same time.

Collaborations in creative fields are the way to the future. Gen-Z is changing the way we interact within society. How do you see society moving forward?

Majid: I think it is a very interesting time, things keep getting faster and faster. The digital world is on the rise and we will see where it ends.

Maxie: I think we’re not afraid of having uncomfortable conversations anymore and certain behaviour simply is unacceptable today.

The Timberland shoe is known for its versatility in all situations. How important is this to you when it comes to fashion?

Majid: I am a dancer, so I always have to be ready- versatility in fashion is key to me!

Maxie: It is really important to me. I have this somewhat holistic approach to my closet and the way I shop for clothing. Everything needs to blend in with one another. I don’t want to think about it, it needs to look like “me” and make me feel confident.
