See this series of analogue collages inspired by vintage copies of Playboy

Cabinet is an ongoing series across print and online, where artists present an exclusive portfolio of work.

“I usually look for perfection in my work—a clear and minimal image. With this series, I challenged myself to work more ‘off the cuff’—make it look messy and give it a certain nonchalance. But also, as always in my work, creating an image where you cannot really distinguish the different elements from one another. In some of the images, you see the reflection of artificial light. I like the ‘ugliness’ of these reflections—it contributes to the vintage vibe. I was inspired mostly by the settings found in ‘80s copies of Playboy. I am also inspired by @hardcor_decor, focusing on the backgrounds of vintage skin mags.

I’ve been working with collage since 2012. I don’t see myself as being very creative, but I do feel a certain urge to express myself. Assembling existing images is perfect for me. I feel like I do not have to make up the story or image myself. With collage, the images tell me what to do, which parts to remove and which to add. It is a very satisfying process to see I can create new realities with collage.” —Vesna Vrdoljak
