Vetements unveiled its AW17 show in the infamous Centre Pompidou during Paris Couture Fashion Week. Social uniforms and stereotypes were the main focus of the collection, with punks, secretaries, pensioners and bouncers all making an appearance in the collection. The characters that walked in the show appeared like extras in a film in their familiar looking outfits. Showing these uniforms during an otherwise unwearable Couture Week played up to the irony the brand has become known for.

Traditional casting was discarded for this show as silver-haired men and women took to the runway in oversized coats. “I got tired of just doing hoodies and underground clubs; we’ve done that at Vetements. We took a survey of social uniforms, researched the dress codes of people we see around us or on the Internet.” said Demna Gvasalia to Vogue. Identity is set to be an important topic in 2017 with it’s ability to unite and divide people all over the world.
