The Fashion Weddings Killing the Competition

Fashionable Weddings Katie Shillingford

Every summer women around the world prepare to live out their own personal fairytale. A ceremonial event colloquially referred to as “The Big Day”, weddings have morphed into monumental soirees that now symbolise much more than eternal love. Women spend their youths daydreaming every little detail, from venue to flower arrangement and, most importantly, the dress.
Where the bridal gowns of yesterday were more hideous taffeta mess than high-fashion couture, today’s wedding dresses are all about feminine style. High-profile weddings among fashion industry’s elite have only furthered this phenomenon, inspiring modern brides to think beyond the dress and experiment with capes, pantsuits and more. Without further ado, we present our five picks for the most fashion-forward weddings; tear-jerker vows not included.

Most Fashionable Weddings Giovanna Battaglia

Giovanna Battaglia and Oscar Englebert

When W Magazine Contributor and Senior Fashion Editor of Vogue Japan Giovanna Battaglia tied the knot earlier this June with beau Oscar Englebert, her nuptials quickly became the most talked about wedding of the summer. The event immediately gained its own place in social media’s lexicon with #gioandoscar, and stylish brides-to-be everywhere were scouring the web for the details on each dress. The newly christened Giovanna Englebert wore an Alexander McQueen dress for the ceremony before slipping into ensembles by Azzedine Alaïa and Giambattista Valli throughout the rest of the three-day affair.

Most Fashionable Weddings Frida Gustavsson

Frida Gustavsson and Hjalmar Rechlin

Dressed in a beautiful bohemian number by Valentino, supermodel Frida Gustavsson said “I do” to photographer Hjalmar Rechlin last year. Paying tribute to her Scandinavian roots, the Swedish bombshell accented a plaited up-do with fresh flowers. Our guess is, much like every bride on Pinterest today, this is the wedding Marnie was hoping for from Girls’ season 5 premiere earlier this year.

Most Fashionable Weddings Pigalle

Marissa Seraphin and Stéphane Ashpool

Labels have a habit of going over-the-top when it comes to fashion week, with designers constantly brainstorming ways in which they can outdo one another. During his SS17 presentation earlier this month, Pigalle‘s Creative Director Stéphane Ashpool went so far as to stage his own wedding with longtime girlfriend Marissa Seraphin. While the vows may have been faux, both Seraphin’s pastel coloured ensemble and Ashpool’s crisp white  suit are the real deal.

Most Fashionable Weddings Katie Shillingford

Katie Shillingford and Alex Dromgoole

This Friday, Dazed Fashion Editor Katie Shillingford will celebrate five years with husband Alex Dromgoole. In addition to making it to the silverware anniversary, props must be given to Shillingford for her pale grey chiffon dress, which remains one of the most beautiful bridal gowns today. Designed by uni pal Gareth Pugh, finding the perfect gown is less of a hassle when you’re friends with one of the most hyped fashion designers today.

Most Fashionable Weddings Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles and Alan Ferguson

Never one to play by the rules, Solange ditched tradition and opted for an autumn wedding that took place in November 2014. The bride stunned in a cream dress with matching cape by Humberto Leon for Kenzo, before changing into a practical jumpsuit from Stephane Rolland. Her husband, music video director Alan Ferguson, looked casually cool in a Lanvin suit styled sans tie.
