When others go low, we go high

It may well be a year since you last slipped into your favourite pair of heels. As ‘stay at home’ measures were imposed around the globe, your favourite pair probably found itself relinquished to a distant memory, getting progressively fainter by the day. You traded them for some fur-lined slippers, presumably whilst the heels are tucked into the corner of a wardrobe somewhere in your place of dwelling, waiting for the day when their former role will be reprised in all its glory. It’s a moment that promises the type of enchanting experience of discovery usually reserved for best-selling C.S. Lewis novels.

In many ways, the high heel is emblematic of our fast-paced social lives of old, and it is this tension between past, present and future that Germany-based photographer, Loreen Hinz has focused her lens on for this shoot. With the walls of her shots seemingly closing in on the heels, there is an air of claustrophobia in each image, only mitigated by the reassuring facial features offering hope that the heels have not been forgotten. Fortunately, it looks as though a new version of normality may be on the horizon.
