Jop van Bennekom and Gert Jonkers, the duo behind Fantastic Man and The Gentlewoman, have adapted Wolfgang Tillmans‘ signature EU posters for the upcoming Dutch elections on 15 March. The campaign focuses on protecting the EU against the current climate of extreme political negativity.
The campaign has been supported by many other creatives, including Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art, De Balie and Cookies.
“With this campaign we want to tackle the illusions which the enemies of the EU promote and propagate,” wrote Bennekom and Joonkers in a statement on Tillman’s website. “Cooperation amongst the citizens of all EU member states is the key to our future peace and prosperity.” The pair believe that today’s far-right politicians spew hate and anxiety. “Vote for whatever party, but don’t vote down the EU,” the pair wrote.
