There’s another way to capture the mood of Copenhagen than people-watching and flaneuring: fashion is one of the best reflectors of the zeitgeist, and especially so in that enticing city, which is home to an impressive array of talent. Faroese designer Barbara I Gongini and Pakistani-Croatian Walli Mohammed Barrech, you probably know about. There’s also Heidi Paula Langvad who’s adding Nordic tradition to tailored dresses, and the fetishised knitwear of Moonspoon Saloon, a Copenhagen/Los Angeles-based brand made up of a designers, performance and visual artists.
They may not all have been born or grown up here, but the vernacular of Copenhagen style is something they all speak. What unites them is a strong and confident signature, dark, urban and seductive, and conceptually located in a surreal present, imagining the wearer living in a city of science and fiction all at the same time.
