Being one of the most powerful women in contemporary art, Yayoi Kusama is also the most recent waxwork to grace Madame Tussauds in Hong Kong. Joining a host of household names including Jackie Chan, Michael Jackson, and President Barack Obama, the 87 year-old Pop Art mogul has been honoured with not only a replica of herself, but an entire artistic themed zone display.
The zone will be decorated with Kusama’s signature polka dots. The walls, donned with black circles on a yellow background, will match the outfit chosen for the model of Japanese legend. A hanging pumpkin, representative of the artist’s iconic sculptures, will also be on hand to welcome guests into the exhibit. As a nod to another of Kusama’s trademarked works, her notorious “Infinity Rooms” are hinted at, with an array of parallel mirrors and “dramatic lighting effects” accompanying the wax figure in her spotty room.
