For the eleventh edition of Sotheby’s “Beyond Limits” sculpture exhibition, the auction house has announced it will display a masterpiece by the late Zaha Hadid. Entitled “Lilas Pavilion”, the leaves and petals inspired design will be presented on the lawn of one of Europe’s greatest country estates, Chatsworth House in Derbyshire giving Hadid’s pavilion an even more profound connection with nature.
Hadid originally designed the pavilion for the Serpentine Gallery’s “The Summer Party” in 2007. And after the first presentation of “Lilas Pavilion”, a private collector purchased the sculpture, which is now being sold through Sotheby’s.
The 5.5 meters high structure incorporates technology and organic form beautifully, and it has been renowned for seamlessly accommodating interaction and movement by its dynamic applications throughout a day. While there’s day light the calligraphic arcs and mushroom-like tops offer cooling shades and during the night they regain the audience’s attention by illuminating in mesmerising blue and purple shades.
