A Look Into the Future: Trump’s Promises

Today, Donald Trump’s inauguration to become the 47th President of the United States is set to take place, marking his second, non-consecutive term in office. President Trump’s return to the White House has elicited a spectrum of emotions across the nation. In his inaugural address, he reiterated several key promises he intends to act upon within the initial 24 hours of his presidency. While some commitments seems ambitious, others can be questioned in their feasibility. Yet, one thing is undeniable: Trump has an acute instinct for political theater, masterfully pressing the buttons that rally his devoted base and unsettle his critics.

Ending War in Ukraine 

The war in Ukraine has persisted for nearly three years, sparking extensive political and societal debate. In a 2023 speech in New Hampshire, Trump asserted that he could end the war within 24 hours if elected. His approach reportedly involves negotiating territorial concessions and reassessing U.S. aid to Ukraine.

Taxing Foreign Goods

Addressing economic concerns, particularly inflation, President Trump has proposed increasing tariffs on foreign goods. He has suggested imposing a 25% tariff on products from Mexico and Canada, with an additional 10% for China, other sources quote a raise to a 60% tariff. For Germany, he plans to raise tariffs from 10% to 20%. While this strategy aims to bolster domestic industries, its potential impact on global trade relations and the U.S. economy remains a subject of debate.

Pardon Rioters from January 6

The Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, left a significant mark on American democracy. President Trump has indicated plans to issue pardons for individuals convicted in connection with the events of that day. During his campaign, he mentioned that he would address this matter early in his presidency, possibly within the first nine minutes.

Mass Deportation

Immigration has been a focal point of Trump’s political agenda. He has announced intentions to initiate the largest mass deportation in U.S. history, starting on Day 1 of his presidency, with a focus on cities like Chicago. This plan has raised concerns regarding resources, funding, and the well-being of immigrant communities across the nation.
