As the weather turns that little bit crisper, there’s nothing better than spending an afternoon out of the cold getting lost in some art. With this in mind, we have compiled a short list of suggestions if you’re in London this weekend.

The Calvert22 Foundation, London is hosting this years New East Photo Prize. Eleven finalists have been chosen from over a thousand entries, with each photographer concentrating their lens on the “new east” – that means eastern Europe, the Balkans, Russia and Central Asia. The winner of the overall prize, who will see their work published as a photo book by the Calvert 22 Foundation, will be announced on Thursday the 1st of December. A grant of £1000 will also be awarded, in association with online magazine “Bird in Flight”. There is also a Mentorshop Award from Metro Imaging to be won. With all ten of the finalists producing such impressive work, we imagine it will be a tough competition to judge.

“The Art of Ping Pong” presents its annual charity event at 71A Gallery this week. Kicking off last night, the exhibition and auction of bespoke ping pong paddles is the brain child of Algy Batten. Twenty-one emerging artists from around the world take part every year – and this year features our very own SLEEK Art artist Thierry Noir.

MMX Gallery is hosting one of the shows involved with this year’s six-day UrbanPhotoFest. “A Migrant’s Tale” by the leading festival artist Tanya Houghton accompanies 54 other artists in ten venues within walking distance of each other. The show, in keeping with the theme of community within London’s social landscape, explores the human relationship to food and the connection this affords migrants to their homelands, through a range of mediums.
