Not Suitable for Workwear

Since its opening back in November, International Library of Fashion Research has commissioned creative director Morteza Vaseghi to design its official library uniforms. The uniforms consist of one general coat, one ghost coat and a functional curator’s belt. The general coat in wool has a strict silhouette, with a single pocket and a short sleeve; an active arm for grabbing stuff on the shelf. The library ghost coat in Trevira is a translucent summer version of the general coat. And the woven wool curator’s belt is a union between a thick apron and a working belt; with a solid pocket for exhibition-making and all things library related, such as pens and paper. All items are created with excessive materials from Kvadrat Textiles.

These uniforms defy the tradition of neutral white lab wear in benefit of an ongoing growing collection of conceptual fashion garments. Items will be added as the Library of Fashion Research finds its form. Given that these are the only pieces of garments existing on the library’s premises, we took this opportunity as a testing ground of what alternative library wear can be. These uniforms are designed to stand out and to be paired with your second-to-skin layers, close to your body. A desirable union between the body and the garment. And like any other lab work, this is a process of trial and error.
