Lena Dunham has co-directed a moving animated documentary detailing the history of Planned Parenthood, the organisation behind providing crucial reproductive health services in America. The documentary begins by focusing on Margaret Sanger and the opening of the first birth control clinic in the U.S., and ends with a call to arms for the public to “stand” with Planned Parenthood and thus actively engage with it. The mini documentary was released through Dunham‘s “Lenny Letter” and “Now This Her”, and features Hari Nef, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep and Dunham herself as narrators.
Dunham claimed that “the spirit behind this video will hopefully take us into the Women‘s March on Washington this weekend, where we will be showing our new president that we’re not going to allow a hundred years of progress to disappear overnight.” Guidance from prominent feminist figures such as Dunham and Streep is crucial now more than ever in a climate where female reproductive rights are set to be threatened by the Trump administration.
