A Twisted Take on Denim by Faustine Steinmetz SS'17

Faustine Steinmetz SS'17 by Nico Stinghe

As SLEEK joined the queue to see the Faustine Steinmetz SS’17 presentation, we wondered what would the jean-obsessed designer do to the humble fabric this season? And she didn’t disappoint, continuing her exploration into subverting the familiar workwear style. Forget double denim, for SS’17 the designer, fast becoming known as The Blue Jeans Queen, did denim sprayed with crystals, monogrammed, sheer and with ombré tassels –  to name a few of her innovative treatments.
Vanessa Beecroft’s iconic photography project: Sister Calendar inspired the presentation, and gave the fashion press an up-close and personal view of her intricate handcrafted-pieces. Organic Swarovski rock formations grew out of the seams of jeans and slippers, in an ode to early 2000s glamour. Be prepared to see the logo-print jeans in every editorial next season, and high street brands clamouring to recreate the look.
